My name is Andy St. Onge and I am an independent philosopher, adventurer, big-wave rider, and educator based at Paumalu (Sunset Beach) on the North Shore of Oahu. Originally from New England, I’ve been here surfing the world’s biggest, best waves, climbing (and riding) glorious Hawaiian mountains (Koolau and Waianae ranges), writing, teaching and raising a family for over three decades. Friends, foes, and various others have been pushing me to publish my writing in ways that are more accessible and might reach a broader audience — so that’s what this experiment is about. My interests are varied and wide-ranging; but certain themes remain constant: especially as regards a love of fate, learning, and a commitment to both enhancing and affirming the depth, truth, and quality of life. That’s it essentially, I suppose: living philosophically. Reflections on life — its myriad challenges and mysteries — lead to an embodiment of the philosophical law in and of itself. Amor Fati! Mahalo Nui Loa for joining me in this endeavor.
